Since much of our work relates to the Federal Government's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), references made to "Regions" correspond to the 10 DHHS geographical regions covering the entire U.S. Our work takes place primarily in three DHHS regions where our offices are located in: Region VI, Region IX, and Region X. Click Region VI, Region IX, or Region X below to get a list of the respective states in which we operate.

To obtain more information about a given project, go to Contact Us page for email, telephone, fax, and addresses for each regional program office.

CHT-RG of Oakland, California, currently sponsors projects related to children’s health and well-being. Our current projects for Region IX are:

California Safe Routes to School Clearinghouse
The Clearinghouse exists to offer support to local activists and public agency staff in their quest to develop Safe Routes to School in their California communities. We provide materials and consultation to those who request it. Funding for this project is provided by The California Endowment. More info . . .

Healthy Child Care Consultant Network Support Center (NSC)
The Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) funds the Healthy Child Care Consultant Network Support Center (NSC). Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), in partnership with CHT Resource Group (CHT-RG), leads the initiative. The mission of the NSC is to build the capacity of states to create, maintain, support, and sustain the professional development of child care health consultants (CCHCs) and CCHC networks. These networks help states improve the health and well-being of children in out-of-home early care and education settings. In supporting the goals of the state Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems initiatives, the NSC works closely with our distinguished colleagues at:

  • The American Academy of Pediatrics
  • Health Services Resources
  • The National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care
  • The National Training Institute for Child Care Health Consultants
  • Project THRIVE

Our archived projects for Region IX are:

Chronic Care Implementation Conference
November 2006—February 2007 (completed)
Funded by the California Health Care Foundation, the primary goal is to accelerate the pace of chronic care system change in Alameda County, with particular focus on diabetes care. Staff worked with a planning committee of representatives from community health agencies to plan and conduct a conference held on January 19, 2007. The conference brought together over 70 staff and community leaders in Chronic Care, providing a networking opportunity for clinics and medical practices interested in sharing ideas for best practices in management of diabetes in Alameda County. There will be follow-up meetings to check on progress towards planning local collaborative chronic care projects in 2007 that are related to diabetes.

Region X Projects

CHT-RG of Seattle, Washington has expertise in developing youth-lead prevention curriculum with a focus on alcohol, tobacco and other drug use issues. CHT-RG also provides enhanced coaching and training resources to projects which offer middle to high school aged youth opportunities to build leadership and organizing skills.

Our current projects for Region X are:

Promoting Science-Based Approaches: The primary goal of this project is to increase the number of science-based approaches (SBA) for preventing teen pregnancy and STD/HIV being implemented in Washington State. CRG works intensively with local agencies, including schools, health departments, youth-serving CBOs, and health clinics, providing technical assistance and training to build their capacity for implementing SBA. Our secondary goal for this SBA project is to increase statewide support for and knowledge about SBA among policy and decision makers. Toward that end, we collaborate with the Washington State coalition, the Healthy Youth Alliance (HYA) www.healthyyouthalliance.org

Examples of Expertise

Partners in Prevention (PIP)
CHT-RG of Seattle, in collaboration with Public Health/Seattle-King County, local youth and community based organizations, developed and implemented a Youth Leadership Training to provide youth leaders the tools and skills needed to educate and communicate drug prevention messages to peers, family and community. Utilizing youth input, CHT-RG developed training curriculum for a 2.5 day retreat for youth, ages 14 – 20, that promoted and enhanced youth leadership capacities. During the retreat, youth leaders presented topics ranging from media literacy and social marketing to survival skills and body image; retreat attendees also included community-based prevention specialists, school advisors and counselors. As a result of the retreat, school and community teams created action plans and were given mini-grants to implement various school and community-based prevention projects.
